My cousin, Sarah is going to be on Jeopardy!!!!!!!!! She tried out... and was chosen to be on the show, which will tape over a couple days at the end of August.... and then air in (I think) October!!! This is soooooo exciting!!! She will be flown out to LA for the taping at Sony Studios out there. What a cool experience. I'm thinking she needs some cousin support and that I should "probably" go out and be in the studio audience, don't ya think?
We're so proud, excited and just plain thrilled for you Sarah! You're a genius girl..... we will lay off the martinis for a while to preserve those brain cells.... below, we are killing some with the pepto shots at Cousins' Night. HA!!

Little Luke-isms.....
Luke is quite the talker these days. The boy talks on and on and ON! He tells the best stories. He speaks in quiet tones. He speaks in demanding tones.... but one thing is for sure... the boy is NOT quiet! Ally told stories when she was a baby... I will never forget how she would stand and lecture us in her own language! Luke's language skills have always been much more advanced than even hers were at the same age. Some of my absolute favorite phrases of his lately are:
- "Little bit" - this is a negotiating tactic. As in "Can I have a chocolate baba mommy?" When I say "no," he says, "Just a little bit?" Also imagine blue eyes looking up at you..... melt my heart.
- "Pap-pap" - he asks me to do this when he wants me to pat him at bedtime. Also used in conjunction with "little bit," as in "Will you pap-pap me a little bit?" Again with the melting.
- "I give you a squeeze"
- "I love you sooooo much!"
- "Oooooh... too hot!" Said anytime he sees the sun.... he equates the bright sun to being hot....
- "Turn on the air mommy" - often said after "too hot" :-)
- "Uh oh. I burped" - followed by crazy laughter
- When asked if he pooped... the answer is ALWAYS no... he hates having his diaper changed and would rather sit around in his own filth all the live-long day
- "Where Fracie (Grace)?" - asked DAILY....... he doesn't comprehend that she lives in her own house and has her own parents
- "Daddy is a GOOD man" - I love this one
- "Daddy is the money-maker!" - I have mixed feelings on this one... ha!
- "No pour water on my head. I cry" said every effin time he has a bath. My children hate to be clean.
Maggie Moo....
This past Saturday, while Scott and I attended the wedding, my Mom took Ally, along with my Aunt Kris down to Ohio to meet my brother, David and niece, Maggie for the day. David, his wife Mary and their daughter Maggie live outside of Baltimore.... and my Mom was up from Vegas for a couple weeks, so they decided to each drive about 5 hours and spend the day somewhere in Ohio. They were able to find a great playground to play the day away at.... enjoy dinner together.... and just get a much needed chance to see one another! Ally is still talking about her visit with Uncle David and Maggie....... Maggie is just as cute as can be!
Here are some pictures my Aunt captured from their day:

Home Sweet Home...
Today, I am having a down day. I don't do this very often. Maybe not enough. I'm not sure... I didn't PLAN to stay home, but I am trying to read cues from my kids and maybe follow their lead and anticipate their needs a little more. In this specific case, Luke's needs. We had a wedding yesterday (more on that later) and he spent the night with his Papa.... and from what I hear, they went out on the town with Grace yesterday... needless to say, today when he got home he was a disaster!!!!! Whiney... clingy..... throwing short bursts of tantrums. I think I need to listen to what he is saying and allow him to nap... and have some down time.
We had planned to go out to Duck Lake to celebrate Adam's birthday with some family, but just found out about it Friday. We also had friends in from Chicago who just left this afternoon... so sometimes trying to squeeze it all in is not in anyone's best interest. I think that's a tough lesson to learn. I don't like to miss out.. I like to go, go, go and do just fine with it..... I don't think my kids do.... and I need to listen to them a little more often. So.... Luke is now napping, and Scott and Ally are off to the Lake to "represent" at Adam's dinner. :-)
We will see if Ally does any better.... as she too had a sleep-over last night, with my mom and was up half the night.... She has a full week of gymnastics camp ahead too! So, at a minimum, she needs to get home and get to bed on time tonight!!!
Summers are so great for all that we can do with out kids... and with our friends. But, I find that with my kids at least, I have to find that balance of what they can handle before it's just too much. We've been exploring a lot about our kids lately... through some professional help and reading.... and I'm trying to arrange our lives in such a way that allows them to have more more structure, routine and stability. Mind you... this is not easy for me... I despise all those things. ;-) Seriously... I like to fly by the seat of my pants most days, change it up as often as I can... and I really don't need things that stable. HA! But, I think this will be good for all of us.
For the past few weeks, Ally was not doing camp and I was finding different sitters for different days for both the kids. We have to stop doing that... the kids don't know what to expect every day. This is especially hard on Luke who has some anxiety issues... and even for Ally, who gets overwhelmed easily. So... Scott and I worked hard to come up with a routine for the rest of the summer that we are going to talk over with Ally... present her with some options.... and see what we can do to make life a bit more calm around here!
Ally has the option to go to Y Camp every week from here on out. I think she will likely choose this. If she chooses camp.... she will go each day.... Scott or I will pick her up from camp and we will have a snack for her in the car (she's starving when we get her and I swear this drop in blood sugar makes her crazy!). Then, we will come home... and she will have to find an independent activity (that is NOT WATCHING TV - cuz I swear to god TV scrambles her brain and makes her act out) while one of us makes dinner. We will have dinner together (obviously, when we can) and then, the rest of the evening the kids will get our undivided attention. This is her reward for giving us the time we need right after work to get things done. And, frankly, they need and deserve this time! We will play a game... go on a walk... to the park.... get ice cream... what have you... but, we will spend this time together and it will be the kids' choice!
We have a pretty good bedtime routine already established.... and honestly, our kids are great about going to bed. I have no right to complain about that. That is the one thing we did right. Ha!
If Ally does not go to camp, she will stay home with Luke and my cousin who is going to watch Luke for two days a week for the rest of the summer.... and then, we will have to establish a routine for her to follow then. I do believe that this will be the exception though....
Luke just needs more routine in general... and is to young for there to be a choice just yet! This is not to say we won't go out and about and sometime skip nap.... but most of the time, Luke needs to know what's happening next... to really be comfortable. And in all honesty, Luke is doing GREAT lately. He has been as happy as he's ever been in a long time.... today being the first day he's really been as out of sorts as he is.
So, this is our plan for the next six weeks or so of summer.... obviously, there's a lot more to it... but it's what Scott and I have been working on.... we are both learning that our sensitive children need things to be a bit different than maybe what we've done in the past. Yes... there are a lot of things we have done right. Dammit, we ARE good parents... but we have learned we have done a few things wrong too... and yay us that we are "man enough" to admit it and try like hell to make some changes!!! I give us both a pat on the back for that... we always work together to get to what is best for our family... and sometimes it's hard and not fun at all.... but the best decision in the end for sure!!!!!
Seriously people.... this parenting business is no joke! :-))))))))))))
So..... all that said (and I really didn't mean to go on and on about it - if anyone is still reading I am going to get to more fun stuff, I promise!)...... we had a busy week last week!!! I worked three days (a long week for me ha!)
My mom has been in town, so we have spent some time with her. We took our weekly trip to Nixon on Thursday and since Ally was at camp, I took Grace with us. WHEW! That was harder than I thought it was gonna be!!!!! Little things that I don't have to deal with like taking a two year old to the bathroom... while taking forcing the other to get out of the pool and go with us cuz he can't stay in alone! Ally is super independent... can swim and go to the bathroom by herself... so I just have Luke to contend with. But they had fun...
Friday, we had some friends over for a playdate/dinner..... it turned out to be a GREAT time.... we drank a lot of tequila, ate a ton of Mexican food.... and watched the kids play together so well! Luke is really coming out of his shell and played with everyone like a champ... even going into the basement all by himself with the boys. I am really proud of how well he's been doing. The kids put on a little dance show for us at the end of the night that was one of the highlights of the evening. Birthday shots were the other highlight in my book! Adam turned 30 the next day!
Saturday, we had a wedding in Marshall.... and our good friends from Chicago came and stayed with us too. It was a GORGEOUS wedding, in one of the most beautiful locations (garden) I've ever been to for a wedding! If I had it to do all over again.... this is where I would get married. Just awesome...... I didn't get near as many pictures as I would have liked... but I got some pics of us four girls (my college life-long friends) and that was enough!
We had planned to go out to Duck Lake to celebrate Adam's birthday with some family, but just found out about it Friday. What a great night.... I just love getting together with my girls and their hubbies.... and it was so nice to come back home with Beth and Scott without the kids and just drink some wine and sit around and talk some more... then, enjoy a yummy brunch this morning before they took off!
So, here I sit now.... another week in front of me.... it seems as if the summer is flying by! I only work two days, and the week is a busy one it seems. Ally will be at Gymnastics camp all day, all week. We have a wine tasting event tomorrow night... Luke has a couple of appointments (some sensory testing) and I have a birthday bar night out for some peeps this Saturday up in Lansing... oh, and rumor has it some boys are shooting for a Cadet night at some point too (HAHA!!).
Summer is going too fast............... so today, I'm gonna take it slow.....................

Yuke...
Today while I was changing his diaper, Luke engaged me in a little game of hide and seek. He hid behind his own hands and I said "Where's Luke?". He then said "I here! Where's Mommy?". I said "I'm right here!". He hid once more and asked "Where's Yuke?". It was the first time I've heard him call himself by name.... It was so cute...... "Yuke" :-)

Soccer Saturday....
So, Scott got a call from Don this week, asking him if he'd like to play in an alumni soccer game. HAHAHA!!!! That was pretty much Scott's first response. He was concerned that he would have a heart attack on the field.... Well, if any of you know Don, you know that he can sell pretty much anything... so let's just say, Scott ended up agreeing to play!
The game was yesterday and Katie and I were pretty pumped to take the kids and laugh at our husbands...... she brought the chairs, I brought the margaritas..... and we met at the Lumen soccer field. Ahhh... good memories.... :-) We sat in the shade, my cousin Becky joined us..... and we all talked and tried to keep our kids from running on the field... and drank our yummy beverages......
...... and pretty much forgot to WATCH and laugh at our husbands playing a soccer game!!! HAHA!!! Every once in a while we would look up...... and Scott was still standing, so I wasn't concerned.... :-) It was a lot of fun really.....
Ally was in one of her special moods. Earlier that day, my mom (who is in town from Las Vegas for a couple weeks) took her to see Toy Story 3. She had popcorn, pop... and I assumed a grand time!! I pick her up to go to the game.... and she instantly starts yelling at me.... she's mad that Luke has nuggets and a sucker..... we get to the game, and she's mad I didn't bring snacks cuz she's hungry and again she starts in on the sucker Luke still has (he's the slowest sucker eater in all the world!).... I remind her that she had a great time at the movies, with popcorn and pop.... she screams at me "I didn't have POP! I had SPRITE! That doesn't even have caffeine in it!" Katie laughs hysterically. This is her first time witnessing the wrath of Ally.
Everything sets her off..... until finally she joins Donnie (Katie and Don's four year old) across the field and away from me. Silence. Thank you sweet baby Jesus. ;-)
She was pretty grumpy when we got home.... and frankly, is still in a mood this morning. Ugh. She even ASKED to go see Dot again...... that she can't control how she acts..... I feel concerned for this line of thinking/feeling in her. :-(
I feel that sometimes, the MORE we do with her and for her.... the more angry she becomes. The whole.... "get more, want more" philosophy? I don't know.......
We have been having a wonderful summer!!!!!! Really... I know I write a lot about our troubles... and it's not all troubles..... the bad just really stick out and sometimes inspire me to blog! But there is so much good too.... I have been off a lot! This week, I only worked one day with the holiday and last week, just one day with Jane's induction and everything that went on that week.... Next week I have to work three whole days and that is going to feel weird and good all at the same time. :-)
We have had a lot of fun on our new deck and in our backyard. We have spent more time out there this summer than we have spent in the entire previous seven years living here! This is no lie! The kids have a baby pool and a slip and slide out there that they just love.... they love it even more when Mom and Dad get into the act and slip and slide with them. We've had many meals and ice cream cones out on the new table and chairs and it's been a great summer so far! Luckily, we have a lot more summer to enjoy!
We've also gone out to some friends' house on Mirror Lake a few times this summer to enjoy some lake time..... the kids like it out there.... and it is so nice of them to always invite us out...
So, fun in the sun in our backyard.... out at Mirror Lake and sometimes Duck Lake... and the random Soccer game..... HA! All-in-all, a good, good summer so far..... here's to a lot more to come!!

Saturday Morning
Is this real? And really happening? It's after 9.... And my baby boy is still sleeping?!?! I'm wide awake! I should start screaming "Mama!!!! Baba!!!!!" and see how he likes it. :-))))))
Ally woke up around 8 and got herself a bowl of cereal and turned on cartoons. Luke is still sleeping. Scott just got up and is making coffee. Good morning indeed!!! :-)

Deck
Have I mentioned how much I love our deck?!?! I love it. We have been on it all afternoon and evening. Listening to the Tigers. Drinking beer. It's a perfect night. The kids are on the swingset or running around.... It's just so nice to enjoy our backyard more than we have ever been able to since we have lived here!!!
Today we went to Nixon (the kids and I) with my mom. I took my camera, but took no pictures. I suck!!! Ally had a blast. She loves to swim. Would spend all day in the water if she could. I wish she could. I wish we had a pool! Luke gets more comfortable everytime we go. But today he was a bit grumpy. Tired. He hasn't napped the last two days cuz we've been on the go..... But he slept more than three hours this afternoon to catch up! And the kids have been sleeping til between 8 and 9 each morning. So I can't complain!
Yesterday, the kids and I went to the Chelsea Treehouse with Nicole and Katie and their boys. We had a great time. I am so impressed with Luke lately. The more I take him out and about, the better he does. Yesterday, he went off all on his own and played..... I got teary I was so proud of him!!! I am so glad I continue to push him and do a lot. He's been crazy happy lately.... And just a joy to be around!!!
Right now he's playing UNO with Ally and Scott. Just hanging out. So happy and content. It's a good good night. It's been a good good week!!! :-)

Face-Cation....
So.... If you are my Facebook friend you already know that I'm taking a week off Facebook. A little break. A much needed break. I probably should have done it a while ago!!!!
I feel like I am constantly checking Facebook. Wondering what all my "friends" are up to! I check it obsessively!!! It's on my phone for god's sake so it's always with me!!!! And it's just getting out of hand!!
Why do I check Facebook to see what my friends are doing?!?! Why don't I call them?!?! Why don't we chat? Get together? Heck, even an email or even a text is more personal!!!! This week, I heard someone say that they were asked to be in someone's wedding in a comment on their status?!!! WTF has this world come to?!?!
I won't give it up entirely. I think Facebook allows some mode of communication that is good.... But I do need to cutback. And evaluate how I use it.
So.... Here I am. Day One: Face-Cation. And I am dying to check it!!!! But.... I even remove the app from my phone. ;). Too much temptation. I am weak!!!! ;)
LOL!!!

Friday Night BBQ...
We've had some family come in from out of town this week to see the twins and we thought we would have a little BBQ at our house to celebrate their arrival and get everyone together. Scott's brother and family were in from Kansas City and we invited Scott's Uncle and family in from South Lyon to get together..... have some burgers on the grill and get those of us with little kids together to enjoy the time!!! Jane and Adam were even able to make it for Jillian and Lyla's first big social event out of the house!!! The sparklers were a big hit with al the kids! We were so glad everyone could be here. Scott and I love nothing more than to have people over..... :-)
Binder Park Zoo...
On Wednesday, the kids and I went to Binder Park Zoo. The weather was absolutely perfect. The kind of weather where you even need a sweatshirt in the shade... not too hot... not too cold. Just right!!!!! We spent the entire afternoon there... and saw and did a lot!!!!! We went to the petting zoo, rode the carousel, took a ride on the train, went to Wild Africa and fed the giraffes, and saw a whole bunch of other animals..... the kids had a good time.... and I did too! Here are some pics from our day:
